Workshops

PLAY! offers a diverse range of classes, workshops, and services designed to cater to various interests and age groups. In each of our clubs, we aim to conduct between 8-10 classes per term, ensuring that there is always a wide array of activities available to engage and entertain.

These classes are thoughtfully crafted to provide enriching experiences that promote learning, creativity, and physical activity, fostering a well-rounded development for children. Whether your child is interested in arts and crafts, sports, or educational workshops, there is something for everyone at PLAY!

Additionally, we understand that the school term can be quite hectic for many families, which is why we also schedule programs during every school holiday. This ensures that even if your child's term schedule is packed, there are still plenty of opportunities for them to join in the fun during their breaks. Our holiday programs are designed to be just as dynamic and engaging as our term classes, offering a perfect blend of enjoyment and learning. With PLAY!, your child can continuously explore new interests and make lasting memories, regardless of the time of year.

Play Learning Levels

In 2021 we created our Learning Levels so we could document a students’ journey through PLAY! These levels start at Junior (Level 1) and head all the way through to age 16 (Level 7). PLAYers collect certificates each time they perform which shows them how well they are progressing, and communicates with our PLAY parents which skills their child is developing as they go!

Team Player

Learning how to work together and help each other as a team.

Expression

Learning to act and show different emotions and characters effectively.

Commitment

Showing strong focus, good behaviour in class, and coming every week with a positive attitude.

Growth

Continually improving acting skills and gaining confidence through practice and feedback.

Creativity

Using imagination to come up with new ideas and creative solutions!

Drama

At PLAY Drama, we offer engaging and enriching drama classes for all ages, from 4 to 18 years old. Our curriculum is designed to grow with our students, fostering their creativity, confidence, and performance skills.

For our youngest students, we focus on games and free play, encouraging them to explore their imaginations in a fun and supportive environment. As they grow, our classes evolve to include scripted work and the creation of their own shows, allowing them to develop their acting skills and storytelling abilities.

Our older students have the exciting opportunity to feature in local and national showcases with TheatreNZ, showcasing their talents and hard work to a broader audience.

No matter the age, our goals with drama are to:

Boost confidence levels, teamwork, social skills, and self-esteem.

Help students explore and develop their ideas creatively.

Take a genuine interest in their activities and encourage them to achieve high standards with their performances.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre

We offer a diverse range of musical theatre courses designed to promote fun and confidence through musical theatre songs and simple choreography each term. These lessons are perfect for any child who hasn't tried musical theatre before or those who need a boost in confidence and self-esteem.

For our senior students, we delve deeper into musical theory and explore the context behind the shows we study, providing a comprehensive understanding of the art form.

We also partner with a local dance studio, Aurora, to prepare our students for Encore exams as part of the Asia Pacific Dance Association, giving those interested in dance exams a structured pathway to success.

Our tutors incorporate a variety of genres, from classic early Music Hall shows to modern-day musicals like Matilda and School of Rock. Depending on the time of year, students will either present their hard work at the end of the term in a small after-school presentation or in one of our showcases in Selwyn.

Holiday Workshops

We understand that kids have busy schedules during the school term, so we offer engaging holiday programs for ages 5 through 13 to keep their creative spark alive.

Our holiday workshops include exciting musical theatre sessions, where kids can PLAY, DANCE, and SING, building their skills in a fun and supportive environment. Additionally, our renowned PLAY in a Week workshops give students the opportunity to create and perform their own shows, immersing themselves in the entire theatrical process from start to finish.

Join us at PLAY Drama for our holiday programs, where your child can explore their creativity, make new friends, and have a blast!
