Drama
We grow together and start new stories.
Our terms focus around two different structures: Technique terms, and performance terms! With guidance from their tutor, students will work through ideas inspired by a theme and spend each week rehearsing or learning new techniques. The aim for performance workshops is to introduce the children to performing and creating ideas for performance. At the end of term children will have the opportunity to perform for family members and friends.
These “showcases” are club specific, but the children also get opportunities to perform with our other Drama groups throughout the academic year too; offering a nice balance between working and performing on a small and large scale!
To boost confidence levels, teamwork, social skills and self esteem.
To help children explore and develop ideas
To take an interest in their activities and encourage them to achieve high standards with their performances!
Level 1-2 Drama
These Classes focus on devised drama, confidence building and creating. The work we create in these classes is completely original and always incorporate different themes. Some themes we have explored in the past include: Bedtime stories, pirates, and fairytale forests! Not only do these classes promote confidence and creativity, all children have an equal part in their shows – giving everyone a chance to be the star! These classes are also beneficial for children with learning disabilities or dyslexia as they provide an alternative to reading scripts – we tend to make a lot up as we go!
Level 3-4 Drama
These classes focus on scripted drama. They offer a practical approach to children’s theatre, with classes designed to give children a real insight into the way directors work with children during youth productions.
Each term is spent studying an original script specifically written for the stage. Your child will learn the following about the play scripts they read and perform: character, acts and scenes, dialogue, stage directions, and more! These classes run well alongside school classes as they promote reading and memory function!
Drama doesn’t just benefit self esteem and confidence, it also helps with reading too! Our classes also cater to students with reading disabilities by printing scripts in larger sizes and different fonts.
Level 5-6 Drama
These classes incorporate devising and script work depending on what we have planned for the year.
When the children aren’t gearing up for a performance, alternative terms are dedicated to learning different Drama techniques. ‘Technique terms’ explore different areas of Drama and Theatre studies and include weekly activities that support a different theme!
Some techniques we work on include: staging, character, voice and movement, devising, adaptation, puppetry, improvisation, monologues and more!
Level 7-8 Drama
Our final module that each class focuses on throughout their time at PLAY is our Adaptation and devising module. This module is geared towards our senior students who take a well known story or play and adapt it, or study a particular drama practitioner and create an original drama performance based on their explorations.
These classes promote creativity, as we explore characters and story lines from well known genres and use those to create something else.
